In North China, the dry matter yield can reach 4 tons or more per mu after reaching full production. 'Green Island No. 1' is cold-resistant and salt-alkali-tolerant, and its growth is not affected in saline-alkali soil with a salt content of less than 5%, and it can safely overwinter at -20°C. It can be planted in areas below 42° north latitude and 1000 meters above sea level in China, with an annual rainfall of more than 500 mm, and can be continuously harvested for 20 years after a single planting. As a highly adaptable perennial herb, polyploid giant reed, due to its well-developed root system and large biomass, has become a 'ecological guardian' for soil remediation.
